Sample-processing information
The majority of tissue samples are preserved in 10% buffered formalin. Fresh, frozen tissue may also be available for some neurodegenerative diseases.
Data available for each sample
Neuropathological information will be provided for each sample. Clinical information, including cognitive status, comorbidities, and history of disease progression may also be available.
Quantity of available samples
Sample availability will vary depending on usage and tissue donations. MBTB primarily deals with neurodegenerative diseases that cause dementia, such as Alzheimer's. However, they do have several multiple sclerosis cases and hope, in the future, to expand their collection of MS tissues to further research in this field.
Who can request samples
Researchers affiliated with research institutions, with appropriate ethics approval and a peer-reviewed funding source, may apply for tissue samples.
Cost
A cost recovery fee will be charged for tissue samples to cover time involved in tissue selection and packaging. This will depend on the number of samples requested and will be based on an hourly rate of $30/hour. Researchers will also be responsible for shipping costs.
