Sample types available
Postmortem tissue for use in neurodegenerative research.
Although the focus is on Alzheimer's, tissue from patients with Huntington's, Parkinson's, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, multiple sclerosis, controls, and other disorders are also available.
Sample-processing information
Tissue is frozen, fixed, or embedded in paraffin.
Data available for each sample
Limited anonymized demographic data.
Quantity of available samples
Currently approximately 2200 total cases including MS, other diseases, and controls, collected from 1989 through the present.
Who can request samples
Investigators with meritorious research proposals as determined by the Oregon Brain Bank.
Cost
Shipping costs are generally the responsibility of the researcher. Currently, the Oregon Brain Bank does not assess fees for assistance with most projects with a relatively limited scope of need. Researchers with projects with larger or unusual needs may be asked to defray associated costs.

Requirements associated with sample use
For non-OHSU institutions, a materials transfer agreement will need to be established before tissues can be shipped.
Adherence to standard precautions for biohazardous materials is required.
