Reading the MSGene Database
Hi,
I'm a highschool student from Kentucky who's looking to do a project (maybe for science fair) on predicting Multiple Sclerosis using a neural network (and the MSGene Database). The goal is to build a learning network(backfed learning) that I will feed a group of knowns (genes and the actual diagnostic) and then predict whether or not MS is present. I'm at the very early stages (ie. just theoretical at this point) but a big problem for me is being able to read the database and use it. Anyone mind explaining/ annotating a picture for me?
Thanks,
Will

MSGene samples studies that have investigated genetic markers for association with risk for MS. Whenever independent studies have looked at the same marker, we combine the evidence across studies using a method called 'meta-analysis'. The most compelling findings resulting from these meta-analyses are highlighted in a special section on MSGene called 'top-results'. So, anyone interested in studying the most compelling MS risk genes should probably start looking in that section. Note, however, that we're currently updating the database code running MSGene so that the content currently displayed online may not be up-to-date for all genes.
